I must say that the Moncton dog park has personality ... too much sometimes. Today a white boxer came to the park-the owner reassured me he was real friendly...not. I have never seen my dog bare his teeth-he did today-he was supper angry and very much on the defensive. After the white boxer attacked twice-I removed my dog (it should have been the other way around). As I was leaving he was going after another dog. The young man had brought his son who seemed to enjoy watching his dog attack other dogs...unnerving to say the least.

Riverview verses Moncton Dog park
Being a non-native to Moncton or Riverview-I hold no particular grudge, bias one way or another for either community. So today I checked out Riverview. I found the contrast so startling-where to begin? There are no trees, no vegatation, just rocks and gravel. The little dog park was busy...in contrase, the Moncton little dog park is almost never busy. The people seemed friendly enough-no pit bulls, rottweillers, boxers and other dogs that have caused me some grief at the Moncton park. I guess the big attraction at the Riverview dog park is the water for the dogs to wade in. I don't know if that is a plus...

This morning took my dog to school (walked) with Margaret-we were running late. He did not bark once-even when he got in the school. In contrase to the last time he was there-about three four weeks ago the improvement was profound. I take some of the praise but really it was what I learnt from Darr Houssen (dog training) that made that happen. She was also great on teaching what was not good dog park etiquette. I was letting my dog get away with stuff that I should have been disciplining her on-humping other dogs even though he's fixed is not innocent-it's dominant behaviour-playing with his leash while you are walking is his way of trying to control the situation - not good. I am in charge.
ReplyDeleteForget buying tennis balls/ regular or ones at Canadian
ReplyDeleteTire or Zellers-my dog ripped through them in a matter of an hour and I guess the materials used are quite toxic-they are better used in classrooms to cut down on noise (moving chairs on concrete). I bought the kong ones and they come highly recommended.
went to park-regular dogs-heard nightmare stories from white boxer-after I left the dog bite a retreiver/shepherd mix in the year-the guy joked about getting piercings for his dog-none of us were impressed.
ReplyDeleteraining today...don't think I'll make it.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone venture forth to the dog park?
